Garden Tours are a very popular activity at Hydrangea Farm. Visitors can self tour any retail sales day we're open - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in 2012. It's an excellent way to view a particular variety in terms of mature plant size and form, as well as bloom color and bloom count.
Guided Tours are conducted on Monday afternoons and must be arranged in advance. While we typically examine and comment on the best of our many species and varieties, these tours can be tailored to specific interests. Tours usually last about an hour and a modest fee is charged.
Group Tours are scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are similarly arranged by advance appointment and involve a modest per person fee. Again, specific topics can be viewed and discussed. Many garden clubs have toured the Farm and enjoyed a very pleasant full-day outing during the less busy early week travel days. Only one group is scheduled per day to accommodate travel schedules. Groups are encourage d to bring their lunch and enjoy a the complete experience sitting in the garden.
A Propagation Workshop can also be included in the group tour as July is a busy ‘making more plants’ month for us. We started doing this combo event last year and it was very well received as it makes for a full day experience.
Retail sales are available to all tour participants and we can arrange to deliver your plants to you at dockside prior to your boat’s departure from the island. You can also elect to have our smaller plant sizes shipped to your home.
Mid-July through mid-August is the prime 'green' or fresh bloom period. From late August through September, the blooms mature to their 'antique' stage often producing quite different and very lovely rich color tones.
